NAHL POWER RANKINGS
With just about a month left in the regular season, the NAHL playoff picture is beginning to take shape. Check out our rankings of the top 5 teams right now, as well as teams in the hunt !
1 - Aberdeen Wings
39W 3L 1SOL 79Pts
Despite another recent loss to Minot, Aberdeen has been rolling through their season and are clearly the top team in the league. Forwards Payton Matsui (51pts), Thomas Manty (44pts), Clayton Cosentino (44pts) and defensemen Nico Devita (33pts) have been leading the charge. The main concern for the Wings as they enter the final stretch is can they stay motivated so they can hit on all cylinders for the playoff run.
2 - Johnstown Tomahawks
30W 7L 2OTL 2SOL - 64pts
Jay Ahearn has been on an absolute tear this year accumulating 23 goals and 49 total points on Johnstown's top line. The team collectively has picked up their play of late riding an 8-1 streak in their last 9 and averaging less than a goal a game in there last 4. They are a different team at home and a 6-1 recent home stand record is evidence of that.
3) Shreveport Mudbugs
29W 7L 2OTL 3SOL - 63pts
The Mudbugs have created a four-point gap between them and Lone Star after a weekend sweep a few weeks ago. With a plus 55 goal differential this year, they lead the division by a wide margin in that category which is a huge indicator of why they are having success. Their line up provides a lot of balanced scoring in their top 9 forward group and defensively Chris Hedden and David Breazeal have been playing their best hockey of the season.
4) Lone Star Brahmas
29W 13L 1OTL - 59pts
4 points back in the standings with 2 more games played than Shreveport, Coach Dan Wildfong's group has some work to do if they want to catch Shreveport for the division lead. The duo of Andrew Decarlo and Nicolas Niemo are averaging over a point per game this season. NAHL rookie Luke Johnson has had a monster year accumulating 31 points. They look to keep the momentum going, since they dropped 2 in a row to Shreveport they have rattled off 3 wins vs New Mexico.
5) Bismarck Bobcats
24W 14L 2OTL 3SOL-53pts-Previous NR-
Running a 4-1 winning streak in a very balanced division the Bobcats are playing good hockey at this point in the year. Thomas Bergsland a Colgate commit has recorded points in 4 of his last 5 gams and has had 25 assists on the year.
