The Warriors entered this weekend’s three game series on an eleven game winning streak. The Mudbugs were one of the top teams in the South Division, but had been on a several week off hiatus. The Warriors jumped out to an early two goal lead on tallies by Owen Baumgartner ‘02 and Drew Vieten ’01. Once the Mudbugs settled into the game, they responded with three first period goals. Although the Warriors responded early in the second to tie the game at three, the Mudbugs scored the final four goals to win the game 7-3.
The hard fought battled spilled over into the second night. After a scoreless first period, Braiden Dorfman ’00 scored in the second and Garrett Steele ’02 scored early in the third to give the Mudbugs a two goal advantage. However, the Warriors erased that lead with goals by Jackson Salt ’00 and Thomas Weis ’02 approximately five minutes apart. The game could not be settled in regulation or overtime and had to go to a shootout, where the Mudbugs earned the second point.
The Warriors were able to earn a victory in the third contest of the weekend. The Warriors capitalized on a powerplay early in the first period. Forward Drew Vieten ’01 scored on a feed from Carter Korpi ’01. The tensions boiled over in the second period, which was a heavily penalized affair that resulted in mostly special teams play, but no goals. Korpi added a goal to pad the Warriors lead to give them a two goal advantage. Defenseman David Breazeale scored with approximately 90 seconds left to cut the lead to one, but were unable to knot up the game with the goalie out of the net.
Scouting Notes
Owen Baumgartner – ‘02 Defenseman – Wichita Falls
Commit : N/A
Very quick, two way defender who can transition the puck up ice extremely effectively. He is actively engaged in the play, looking to join the rush as an additional option. He has an accurate shot with good placement. He maintains tight gaps when accepting the rush with a quick pokecheck that he uses to displace opponents of the puck. Needs to improve his strength to make him a better defender in his own zone.
David Breazeale – ‘00 Defenseman – Shreveport
Commit : N/A
Large, effective defender who moves pucks up ice extremely well. He has a poise with the puck, not looking to rush the play. He uses his partner well in his own zone or on the regroup to alleviate pressure. He has good anticipation with the ability to step up to keep offensive pressure or to intercept passes in the defensive zone. He is an effective penalty killer who neutralizes the seam pass.
Carter Korpi – ‘01 Forward – Wichita Falls

He is a good skater with good speed which allows him to get to all areas of the ice. He handles the puck well, even in tight situations with a good awareness of where his teammates are on the ice. He has a quick release with the ability to pick corners. He plays a two way game, always looking to fill in for pinching defensemen or providing strong back pressure.
Braiden Dorfman – ‘00 Forward – Shreveport
Commit - Dartmouth
Two-way center who has good vision and plays a heavy game. He is defensively responsible and does not cheat the game. He forechecks well with proper angles and always finishes his hits. He is more of a dump and chase player rather than a transition puckhandler. He drives the net hard and sets a solid net front presence.
Drew Vieten – ‘01 Forward – Wichita Falls

200 foot centerman who plays a complete game. He is a very good skater which allows him to excel in transition. He has a good hockey IQ and the ability to find open space in the offensive zone. He will slow down the play to survey his options. He generates a bunch of scoring chances when he is on the ice.
Giovanni Procopio – ‘00 Forward – Shreveport
Commit : N/A
Big strong powerful winger with good hands around the net. He is always on the hunt for rebounds. He is tough along the walls and in the corners. He is generally in good defensive positioning with a willingness to sell his body to block shots. He could improve his skating stride to be able to generate more speed or quick acceleration.
Thomas Weis – ‘02 Forward – Wichita Falls
Commit : N/A
Speedy, offensively dynamic player with high end vision and some deceptivenss in his game. He carries the puck well with his head up allowing him to survey the ice and make excellent passing decisions. He is relied upon to facilitate offense on the powerplay. His shot could use better pace, although that has not stopped him from putting up double digit goals in the NAHL.
Joe Mack – ‘00 Forward – Shreveport
Commit : N/A
Heavy winger who is strong on the walls and has a heavy shot. He is more of a complimentary forward than a play driver. He makes strong outlet passes to allow his team to transition up ice. He is a strong forechecker whose pressure helps generate turnovers. He is responsible in his own zone with good active stick.
