NHL Central Scouting Players To Watch list
NHL Draft
The NHL’s Central Scouting department released their first player list related to the 2022 draft, listing 397 players from North American and International. Of the 23 A ranked prospects, 5 of them come out of the USNTDP, with Finland and the WHL having 3 each to round out the top 3. For B rated prospects, the OHL blew all other leagues out of the water, with 21 B rated prospects. The next closest being the Russian Junior League with 9 and Sweden Junior League with 8. In total, the OHL had 66 players listed, leading all leagues, followed by the USHL with 48 and the WHL with 45.
From US leagues, the USHL led all leagues with 48 prospects, with no A rated prospects, 7 B rated, and 41 C Rated. The USNTDP had 20 total prospects, with 11 being A or B rated prospects. Across high school hockey, a total of 26 players were listed, all but 3 listed as C rated prospects. Massachusetts High School hockey listed 11, with Minnesota coming in close second with 9. 7 total prospects were listed from NCAA schools, with Jack Hughes of Northeastern being the only A rated prospect.
Michigan Falls to Western Michigan
NCAA DI
University of Michigan’s #1 ranking and perfect start to the season was no surprise for a team with a roster full of NHL talent including 2021 top picks Owen Powers (Buffalo), Matty Beniers (Seattle), Luke Hughes (New Jersey) and Kent Johnson (Columbus). However, there are no perfect seasons, and the Wolverines were handed their first loss Friday night with a 5-2 loss to #17 Western Michigan at Yost Ice Arena. 5 different Broncos scored in the game, and Brandon Bussi stopped 23 of 25 shots to get Western Michigan the big upset. This was Michigan’s first game with the #1 ranking. The Broncos are now 3-0-0 on the season.

Highlight Zone
James Hagens - ‘06 Forward - Mount St Charles U15
The crafty left hander plays with a constant pace, with skill and hockey IQ to operate at high speeds effectively. Hagens looks to be a lock for the USNTDP, and is one of the top skilled players from the 2006 birth year. Has an effortless, jumpy stride and loves to skate into pucks at top flight. Hagens looks to have the demeanor of a top prospect, with all the skill and speed needed to be branded one of the best from his age group. Lots to love about this exciting prospect. So far this season, Hagens has 4 goals in 3 games, and finished last year with the Mount St Charles U14 team with 27 goals and 30 assists in just 27 games.
