1.8.22 - SSM 8 vs Victory Honda 1
Shattuck jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first, and really never looked back. William Whitelaw was dominant throughout, scoring 2 highlight reel goals in the first using deception and soft hands to beat defenders to the net or walk by to get grade A shots. Defenseman William Jones also tallied 2 goals in the first from the point.
1.9.22 - SSM 4 vs Victory Honda 3
Game 2 was a much closer game, with Victory Honda playing a better transition game not allowing Shattuck to get to pace off turnovers. Mackin Celebrini opened the scoring with an effortless looking one timer snipe on the powerplay, the only goal of the first period. Charlie Masek would find the back of the net to tie the game at 1 after making a strong physical play to retrieve the puck and follows up for quick shot to net for goal. The teams would trade goals in the second to be deadlocked at 3 entering the final frame.
Scouting Notes
William Whitelaw - ‘05 Forward - SSM
Speed and offensive instincts drive Whitelaws game, as he scored in both games and was an offensive threat throughout the weekend. Not the hardest worker away from the puck, but has seemed to be operating a pace higher than the rest of Victory Honda. Showed great patience and skill waiting off defender on 2 on 1 to tuck a goal around goalie in game 1, as well as a higlight reel goal toeing around a defender on a 2 on 2 and sniping with a drag and shoot method.
Macklin Celebrini - ‘06 Forward - SSM
Celebrini was arugably the most impressive player on the ice over the course of the weekend. The rangey left hander showed a unique ability to adjust the pucks distance from himself to create new escape routes with the puck. Scored an effortless looking one timer Sunday with great pop off his stick, an absolute snipe. Was a driver offensively in all situations, and loves to be the QB on the rush, making puck decisions. Loved his ability to create out of nothing, and finding ways with long reach and great balance to get shots through.
Anthony Yu - ‘04 Forward - SSM
The skilled righty had himself a weekend, scoring in both games, and was the star of Sunday’s game. Yu loves to get into a 2 foot stance, and is comfortable with the puck, ready to dart in any direction by changing the amount of weight on each foot. Scored in many different ways, showing his offensive instincts getting to the right areas to find loose pucks for goals or shooting from distance, as well as an ability to find teammates at the right time for assists.
William Jones - ‘04 Defenseman - SSM
Slightly undersized right hander whose game on both sides of the puck start with his feet. Not the fastest small dman, but was in consistent support of his partner throughout the weekend. Scored 2 goals in Saturday’s game 1 with a ready to shoot attitude from the point, with a quick release but not overpowering puck speed or power. Defensively is in great position throughout cycles, and has the jump to effectively shut out a cycle play and get the puck moving.
Calvin Vachon - ‘05 Goalie - SSM
Impressive in his Sunday start, Vachon plays with quick reactions with feet and hands, as well as very strong butterfly slide movements. Made multiple saves reading back door or lateral plays with lightening fast, but controlled slides. One tough rebound goal on goal #3 late in second, but has the ability to never be out of a play.
Trent Boryszczuk - ‘04 Goalie - Victory Honda
After coming into the game in relief in game 1, Boryszuk battled throughout his 5-ish periods over the weekend. First save goaltender who relies on reactions and quick feet and hands to make saves. Not extremely traditional in recovery movements, but made key saves in Sunday’s game to keep his team in the game, including multiple breakaway saves Sunday. Average skating ability and technique, but strong reader of the game.
Grant Babcock - ‘04 Defense - Victory Honda
Simple left handed defenseman who plays with high IQ in all zones. Babcock does the little things the right way, and very little wasted effort in his stride. Not overly skilled but effective with the puck. Physical defending when he needs to be. Loved his positioning.
Hadley Hudak - ‘03 Forward - Victory Honda
Very impressed with Hudak’s mobility and balance with the puck for his size. Set up a nice goal on Sunday, and seemed to love to get to the dirty areas, which makes sense as he has the body and mentality of an annoying, bruising but skilled, power forward. Showed a constant urge to get to the house, as well as an ability to maneuver his body around pucks to get quick passes into the correct areas.
