The start of the USHL season kicked off at the Fall Classic in Pittsburgh, PA. Check out some of the top stories + prospects to watch for the 2024 NHL Draft !
The Perfect 5
Green Bay Gamblers, Madison Capitals, Fargo Force, Tri-City Storm and USNTDP finish Fall Classic 2-0. Just 3 teams, Youngstown, Omaha, and Waterloo were winless, with Sioux City falling twice in overtime, 3-2 to Chicago and 4-3 to Green Bay.
Quick Start for Eiserman
Cole Eiserman’s start to the USHL campaign couldnt have gone better, tallying 4G 1A in 2 games, including hat trick performance in a 7-2 win over Omaha on Sunday. A must watch for the USHL season, Eiserman has the goal scorers instincts, ability to score in from distance or in the dirty areas.
The Massachusetts native made big news off the ice this weel as well, flipping his commitment from University of Minnesota to Boston University. Eiserman is currently tied for the league league in points (5) and the goal scoring leader (4).
Defending Champs Start 0-2
The 22-23 Clark Cup champion Youngstown Phantoms fell in both games at the classic, 2-1 to Tri-City and 5-1 to Cedar Rapids. The Phantoms have some new faces this season, starting in goal with Owen Bartoszkiewicz. Bartoszkiewicz played last season for the University of Minnesota, appearing in 6 games, and makes his return to Youngstown to fill the void left by USHL goaltender of the year and Montreal Canadians draft pick Jacob Fowler, now at Boston College.
Columbus 4th round pick Andrew Strathman returned to Youngstown this season, a great leader for exciting young prospects like Zach Morin and Sascha Boumedienne. Boumedienne, a tender from last season, scored his first USHL goal late in Wednesday’s loss to Tri-City.
Former NAHL Goaltenders Leading USHL
Adam Gajan of Green Bay and Cameron Corpi of Tri City arguably were 2 of the top goaltenders at the Fall Classic, and both have routes back to the NAHL last season. Adam Gajan, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick in 2023, played for Chippewa last season while Korpi was traded from the Oklahoma Warriors to Tri-City in the 2nd half of the 2022-2023 NAHL season. Both goaltenders went 2-0 during the Fall Classic, while Korpi leads the league with a 0.98 GAA and .966 Save %.
2024 Draft Prospects
Outside the USNTDP, there are plenty of NHL prospects to keep an eye on this season in the USHL. Sacha Boisvert made the jump from U15’s last season to Muskegon, tallying 17G 28A in 57 games, and returns for his draft season already touted as a possible first round pick.
Other forwards include Trevor Connelly of Tri-City, and Michael Hage of Chicago. Another former Mount St Charles U15 like Boisvert, defenseman WIll Felicio is arguably one of the top defense prospects on NHL radars. In goal, watch for Caleb Heil of Sioux Falls. The North Dakota commit played just 1 game at the showcase, defeating Cedar Rapids 5-2, stopping 18 of 20.
