What makes him a prospect?
The most impressive aspect of Hughes’ game is his development over the past 12 months. Coming from the Elite division last year, Hughes has played better and better each game for Coach Kilcoyne. The uncommitted, 2001 birth year goaltender has surprised a lot of scouts so far, and could be a diamond in the ruff for a college program next year. The Rockets always find themselves in the mix come playoff time, and Hughes could be the x-factor to steal an important game.
Areas To Improve On
Hughes plays an aggressive, athletic style of goaltending and has done a great job over the off season to remain calm and consistent for a full 60 minutes of play. As college hockey approaches, Hughes will look to continue to round out his game, working to simplify his movements by relying less on his athleticism and more on his positioning.
Overall
Hughes is a gamer who loves to compete. He is in incredible shape, and is a workhorse in the gym. On the ice, the Jersey native is positionally sound and never out of a play. Most importantly, the improvement in the last 12 months has been the most impressive attribute about Hughes, and he will only get better given the opportunity.
