Tier III Power Rankings #3
Our Tier 3 rankings are based off :
- Strength of Schedule
- College Commitments / Advancement
- Wins
- Eye Test
1 - Boston Jr. Rangers - EHL
Record 32-12-3 - Previous 2
Cruising into the EHL playoffs are the Junior Rangers. They have done a tremendous job pumping out NCAA D3 commitments this year and currently sit second in the league in commitments. This team is built for the playoffs and should be ready to go in March.
Look for Boston to continue their hot hand, as the Jr Rangers have gone 10-3 since February 1st.
2 - Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights - USPHL Premier
Record 39-3-1 - Previous 3
Announcing their move to the NCDC has not distracted this team from their continued success. With the amount of talent scheduled to return back to Wilkes next season, they should have no issue having success at a higher level.
The Knights took care of Buffalo with ease in their first playoff game Friday night, tallying a 9-0 win.
3 - New Hampshire Avalanche - EHL
Record 31-8-5 - Previous 1
With their league high 15 NCAA D3 commitments its easy to say no one does it better than the New Hampshire Avalanche. Of late this group has struggled a bit, lacking the ability to string wins together, but should be ready to roll for the EHL playoffs.
4 - Rochester Grizzlies - NA3HL
Record 36-6-2-1 - Previous 5
Having players move onto the NAHL is the name of the game in the NA3, and Rochester continues to pump NAHL talent. Playing in the tough Central Division gives them this spot over Granite City. More impressively this team only has three 20 year old's on their roster.
5 - Granite City Lumberjacks - NA3HL
Record 43-2-0 - Previous 4
Granite City to date has the most NAHL signings for next year. Coaches Brad Willner and DJ Vold have done a tremendous job with this program, they are built for a big playoff run.
6 - New Jersey 87's - EHL
Record 29-12-4 - Previous 6
Staying at 6 are the New Jersey 87's who have been fairly consistent since our last ranking. This years team has a ton of talent and is not being hyped up as much as teams in years past, which maybe good for their playoff chances. They just need to be aware of the surging Little Flyers team who has won 6 straight.
7 - Northern Cyclones - USPHL Premier
Record 37-3-3 - Previous 9
Cyclones have done a nice job putting kids into school this year. They are one of the oldest teams in tier 3 hockey and as a group they have shown they are fully invested in winning a championship this season. Look for them to make a deep playoff run.
Friday nights Game 1 playoff matchup vs Twin City was no cake walk, but Michael Mulkerrin was the hero in OT to get the Cyclones the game 1 win.
8 - Charlotte Rush - USPHL Premier
Record 31-10-1-1-2 - Previous 10
Winning the South East Division regular season is no easy task as the division is one of the deepest in Tier 3 hockey but the Rush are making a habit of doing so. The skill on this Rush team makes them a hard out in playoffs and they have two very capable goaltenders in Nick Anderson and David Battisti making them a dangerous team.
Charlotte will take on the Carolina Jr Hurricanes in a 3 game series beginning Sunday, March 13th.
9 - Florida Eels - USPHL Premier
Record 33-8-1 - Previous NR
The Scarpaci's have built a team that looks like they like coming to the rink to compete. The programs past history speaks for itself and this years team has been no different. Coming in hot into the playoffs the EEL's are winners of 9 in their last 10.
10 - Metro Jets - USPHL Premier
Record 39-4-1 - Previous NR
In the Great Lakes region, you won't find a program that advances kids as well as the Jets do. They have done a great job this year in college commitments and have found sustained success. They have bounced back since our last ranking and should be an exciting team to watch in the playoffs.
