The New Jersey High School hockey season is wrapping up its conference tournaments over the next week before the state tournament, get caught up on all the top matchups !
Gordon Cup
The quarterfinals began Thursday night, with #3 Delbarton defeating Bergen County champions #6 Bergen Catholic 6-2 behind 6 different goal scorers. #7 Seton Hall Prep almost pulled off the upset vs #2 St Augustine, jumping out to a 3 goal lead in the first, and tying the game in the final seconds of the 3rd on a Christopher McIntyre goal. But Robert Romarino would win it for the Hermits 5-4 in OT. #1 Don Bosco will play #8 Pope John Friday, with the winner meeting CBA in the semifinals. #2 St Augustine will face #3 Delbarton in the other semifinals.
Bergen County Cup
#3 Bergen Catholic upset #1 Don Bosco 3-0 Wednesday night behind an Erez Yacobi 41 save shutout to take the Bergen County championship. Both teams narrowly escaped the quarterfinals, with Bosco defeating #8 Glen Rock 2-0 and Bergen Catholic squeaking by with a 1-0 win over Ridgewood due to an impressive performance by Ridgewood junior goaltender Jack Scali, stopping 45 of 46.

Yacobi was the backbone of BC’s final run, stopping all 41 shots in the final + 28 saves on 31 shots in the semis.

On a 3 game point streak, senior forward Declan Quinn opened the scoring in BC’s win over Don Bosco in the Bergen County Final + 1G 4A in the semifinals vs Northern Highlands.
Mennen Cup
#1 Randolph, arguably the top public team in the state, rolled past #4 Morris Knolls 9-2 to advance to the Mennen Cup finals next week, lead by Sophomore forward Daniel Sharkey (3G 1A), Junior forwards Jase Zangara (2G 3A) and Jacob Campbell (2G). #3 Chatham defeated #2 Morristown-Beard 4-2, breaking a 2-2 tie early in the 3rd on a Luc D’Costa goal. Randolph and Chatham have met twice this year, Randolph taking both games 5-2 and 7-1.
Skyland Cup
The Skyland cup began Thursday with the reigning champions #2 Pingry defeating #7 North Hunterdon 8-0. #5 Bridgewater will rivals #4 Ridge, fresh off a 5-2 win over Hillsborough in regular season play, with the winners facing #1 Hillsborough (bye) in the semifinals. #3 Hunterdon Central fill face #6 Watching Hills to determine the last semifinal spot vs Pingry.
Handchen Cup
The Doumas brothers, Nik and Jacen, lead #2 Rumson-Fair Haven into the semifinals against #6 Middletown North, with #1 Manalapan facing #4 St John Vianney in the other semifinals. Senior Danny Greenhall had a hat trick in the 4-3 win for St John Vianney over #5 Wall in the quarters, while #6 Middletown North upset #3 Manasquan in a wild back and fourth game in OT on Dominiks Marnauza’s 2nd goal of the game.
McInnis Cup
The semifinals are set with #1 Governor Livingston taking on #5 Summit, and #2 Westfield facing #3 Cranford. #5 Summit took down #4 West Essex 6-3 to advance to the semi’s behind 2 goal performances by Senior defenseman Drew Goldfarb (2G 3A) and Sophomore forward Jacob Jett (2G 1A). #3 Cranford narrowly avoided the upset over #6 Livingston due to Jake D’Aquino’s performance in net, stopping 45 of 46 shots. #2 Westfield, the Union County Champions, roll into the semi’s after a commanding 6-0 win over MKA, Senior forward Alex Ebel (3G) and junior forward Jackson Chicola (1G 2A) leading the way.
Halvorsen Cup
#1 Kinnelon will take on #3 Mendham Thursday 2.15.23 at Mennen Arena for the Halvorsen Cup final. Kinnelon defeated #4 Madison 5-2 behind 2 goals from Senior Joey Kopec, while Ian Aikenhead scored the lone goal in the 3rd + Brendon Eigner’s 25 save shutout performance led Mendham over Bernards tri-op 1-0.
Big North Cups
Big North Gold and Silver Cups begin tonight at the ice vault. Northern Highlands and Wayne Hills are the two #1 seeds.
Kelly Cup
#1 Glen Rock and #2 Verona both received byes into the semifinals beginning Monday. #6 Scotch Plains-Fanwood upset #3 Montclair 5-2 Thursday to advance to the semi’s vs Verona, while #4 Nutley and #5 Oratory Prep face off for the final spot in the semi’s vs #1 Glen Rock. Junior forward Anthony Lorenzetti scored 2 crucial goals, opening the scoring in the 1st + the goal to give SPF the important 2 goal lead late in the 3rd to put the game away vs Montclair. Sophomore Lorenzo Tittanegro stoped 44 of 46 shots for SPF, and will be a player to watch for another upset vs #2 Verona.
Dowd Cup
The final four is set for the Dowd Cup, with #1 Brick Township facing #4 Southern Friday and #2 Toms River East facing #3 Ocean Township on Monday. Senior forward Jake Toye and Junior forward Peter Morris have been top producers for the top seeded Brick, both tallying points in Brick’s 5-3 quarterfinal win over #8 St Rose. Senior defenseman Owen Mumm is a key player to watch for Ocean, tallying 20G 20A on the season, currently on a 5 game point streak (12G 9A), including a hat trick performance in their quarterfinal 4-1 win over #6 Marlboro.
Mercer County Tournament
Top Seed Paul VI defeated #8 West Windsor-Plainsboro South 5-0 to open the Mercer County tournament on Wednesday, as well as #3 Hopewell Valley defeating #6 Lawrenceveille School B 6-2 to advance to the semifinals. #2 Robbinsville will face #7 Nottingham, and #4 Notre Dame will face #5 Princeton Friday for the final 2 spots. Senior goaltender Nathan Mayer will be a player to watch for Notre Dame, who split their season series with Princeton this year. Junior forward Zach Duggan, Senior forward Luke Gensinger and Senior defenseman Charlie Luizza are a must watch for #2 Robbinsville.
