Top Performers
Maxwell Beckford - ‘03 Goaltender - Wisconsin WIndigo
Playing behind a strong defensive core, Beckford has been a game changer for Wisconsin. Turning away 70 of 72 shots this past weekend, Beckford is a nice combination of athletic ability and technical ability. He has managed both games very well, not putting too many pucks in high danger areas and staying mentally sharp.
Samuel Jacobs - ‘02 Forward - Wisconsin WIndigo
Commit : Air Force
Scoring the game 2 overtime winner was a nice finish to what was an impressive weekend for the Air Force commit. Jacobs makes several little plays throughout the game as he is consistently distributing the puck with ease. He is a smart player that finds soft areas of the ice and works well off the puck to create transitional plays along with second and third chances off the goaltender.
Cole Mickel - ‘02 Defenseman - Wisconsin WIndigo
Commit : Niagara
Mickel is a good-looking defensemen for Wisconsin as he plays a solid two-way style of defense. He moves pucks very well, seeing the ice and then snapping his pass. He is reliable in his decision making and he has the ability to lead the rush if he needs too. He defended well and hard vs Chippewa's top offensive units and should continue to log heavy minutes for his club.
#2 Minnesota Wilderness vs #3 Kenai River Brown Bears
Series : Minnesota Leads 2-0
Game 1 : Minnesota (3) vs Kenai (1)
Game 2 : Minnesota (2) vs Kenai (1)
Next Game
Game 3 : Friday 4.28.23 @ Kenai River Brown Bears
Kenai River has been playing competitive hockey but has been on the wrong side of the scoreboard twice. The difference has been the Minnesota power play that has scored in back to back games vs the Kenai River power play that has failed to connect. With how tight the first two games were, if Kenai looks to remain in the series they will need to find a way to stay disciplined and will the special teams battle.
Top Performers
Kevin Marx Noren - ‘02 Forward - Minnesota Wilderness
Scoring two goals on the weekend was Noren who was consistently involved in the offense for Minnesota. His first goal of the weekend, he did a great job of coming off the wall using his edge work to create space for himself and then took a well placed shot that beat the goaltender. He has proven to be a regular scorer in the league and will play a major role in the Wilderness success this post season.
Isak Posch - ‘02 Goaltender - Minnesota Wilderness
Commit : St. Cloud State
Asserting himself as one of the top netminders this year in the NAHL was Posch. He has gotten his post season off the right track turning away 46 of 48 shots that Kenai has thrown at him. Overall, he is a 6'3 goaltender that moves very well and has a high hockey IQ which allows him to read the play very well as it develops. He has shown consistency and the mental make up to be a game changer this playoff season.
Nils Wallstrom - ‘03 Goaltender - Kenai River Brown Bears
Commit : AIC
Wallstrom has done his best keeping his team in games through the first two. He has shown the ability to make timely saves, especially when Minnesota is starting to gain momentum. Through traffic and broken plays is where Minnesota has shown to have some success on Wallstrom.
Reid Daavettila - ‘05 Forward - Minnesota Wilderness
Commit : Michigan Tech
The young forward had himself a tremendous weekend getting involved offensively. He works to get to the right areas of the ice and has shown the ability to redirect pucks onto net. At 6'1 he is tough body to move in the net front, through the year he has gotten stronger in the tough areas making him hard to contain.
Bo Cosman - ‘02 Forward - Minnesota Wilderness
Commit : UMass
Cosman was not overly productive on the scoresheet this weekend but he had a strong two game. He contributed on the power play with an assist and he showed that he can be a nice support piece to any line. He provides necessary depth to be successful at the junior level and he plays within himself.
