With two full months of NAHL hockey in the books we have enough sample size to create our first edition of the NAHL Power Rankings for the 24-25 season.
#1 Bismarck Bobcats
13-1-0-1
There is not much to not like about this Bismarck squad as they simply have handled business through the first quarter of the season. They feature the league's best penalty kill and have a roster that is deep making them a hard match up for any opponent. Bismarck has benefited from an easy schedule that included 3 non-playoff teams at the showcase and have faced off several times vs expansion teams Watertown and the Mallards. A recent step up in class in their last 4 games has seen a 2-1-0-1 schedule. With all that being said we don't see this team slowing down in the near future.
#2 Lone Star Brahmas
12-2-0-1
The defending Robertson Cup champs are off to another solid campaign in the 2024-2025 season which started with a 3-0 performance at the showcase. After being hit hard by the USHL draft selection process it has been impressive for Lone Star to have this start. Recently Lone Star took 3 of 4 points from division foe Corpus Christi, further cementing them as the South Division favorite this year. 04' Goaltender Jake Spicer has been one of the leagues best with a 94 save percentage and 1.3 gaa on the year. Lone Star further improved their goaltending department recently with the addition of 07' Boston College Commit Ryan Cameron who notch a shutout in his first ever junior start. Cameron currently sits with a 98.2 save percentage on the year in two games and is a goaltender who will get some NHL draft attention this year.
#3 Anchorage Wolverines
11-3-1-0
The Wolverines edge out division leading Wisconsin Windigo for our third spot in this power ranking. Simply put, the Windigo and Wolverines are very similar however the Wolverines hold the advantage in head-to-head matchup. On home ice the Wolverines have been something special as they are using their home crowds of 2,000 plus to their advantage as they currently sit with a perfect 5-0 record. That home crowd will bode well for the Wolverines as they have 6 more consecutive home games through November which will allow Anchorage an opportunity to stack wins. 05' Defensemen Brock Devlin has blossomed this season as he leads the Wolverines in points this year with 17 in 14 games played.
#4 Wisconsin Windigo
12-2-1-1
As noted above in the Wolverines section, we are splitting hairs between the two. Wisconsin is a good hockey team and they proved that after a solid performance against Janesville after getting swept by Anchorage the weekend before. Sitting in first in the division this team will be a contender all year in what looks like to be a very competitive Midwest division. Forward Elliot Gulley leads the league in scoring with 24 points and has been a huge reason why his team has a league best power play that is clicking at 26 percent. The Windigo also feature a top 3 penalty kill unit in the league as well.
#5 Corpus Christi IceRays
10-3-0-1
Corpus has been one of the biggest surprises this year and many including us thought their start was a bit out of character from years past. However, with their recent split over Lone Star in what were two thrilling games just proved that Corpus is going to be in the middle of things all season long in the South Division. They have a chance to really build some cushion in the standings through November as they have a favorable schedule that includes bottom of the division teams, Colorado, Odessa and Oklahoma.
