Vancouver Locks Up Key Pieces

With preseason hockey winding down, attention has been placed on the last remaining RFA’s yet to sign. Last week, Vancouver finally resigned Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson to $7 million + contracts. Hughes, who finished the tough 2020-2021 season with 41 points in 56 games, signed for 6 years $7.85 million. Pettersson, the crafty, poised center tallied over 60 points in his first 2 non covid seasons, signed for 3 years $7.35M.
Springfield, Maryland Lead Pack

The Springfield Jr Blues and Maryland Black Bears have been the 2 hottest teams to start the season, currently tied for the league lead with 16 points each. Joey Dosan has been the offensive heartbeat for the Jr Blues, tallying 7 goals and 8 assists in 10 games played. For Maryland, led by Ryan Bottrill and Luke Van Why, opened the season 4-0, and has gotten back to their winning ways after a brief .500 span, sweeping the Northeast Generals in their last weekend series.

2022 Beijing
The IIHF announced the first 3 players for each of the 12 teams competing in the 2022 Beijing men’s hockey tournament, with Auston Matthews, Patrick Kane, and Seth Jones being the American trio selected. No surprises for Canada’s selection, who picked Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Alex Pieterangelo.

Augustana University’s New Program
NCAA Division I
Augustana University, a Sioux Falls based school with approximately 1620 students, will become the first institution in the state to field a Division I ice hockey program, starting in October 2023. The Vikings have broken ground on the $40 million Medco Arena, a 3000 seat facility.
