Duncan Keith Traded to Oilers for Caleb Jones, Picks
Former Chicago Blackhawk defenseman Duncan Keith has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers after requesting a trade to a Pacific Northwest team earlier this summer to be closer to his family. The 37 year old offensive defenseman is at the tail end of his career, one in which he has collected 3 Stanley Cups, 2 Olympic gold medals, and 2 Norris trophies as the league’s top defenseman. Keith played for the Blackhawks for 16 years.
In return, the Blackhawks receive Caleb Jones, the younger brother of arguably the top free agent of the summer, Seth Jones, as well as $5.5 million in salary cap space over the next 2 years. Caleb has been up and down between the NHL and AHL in his first 4 seasons as a pro, and was a 4th round selection by the Oilers in 2015.
Matthew Coronato - ‘02 Forward - Chicago Steel (USHL)
#9 Ranked North American Skater
Commit : Harvard University
Coronato finished second in scoring for the USHL regular season with 48 goals and 37 assists in 51 games, and led all players in playoff points with 13 on his was to a USHL Clark Cup Championship. The New York native has an ability to score from anywhere, and is constantly finding perfect spots to get shots to the net quickly. On the powerplay, the Harvard commit is a serious threat on his one timer side, and has a lethal release on his wrist shot. Coronato has a simple stride, and gets to speed very well with the puck.
What makes Coronato a prospect is his ability to process the game. His hands are strong but is not someone who is dangling through players. His strength is his ability to make simple moves to get shot lanes open, or finding the best option to be open for a quick play to the net. Even though he is only 5’10, Coronato is not afraid of contact, and can get into battles when needed.
