2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup
Gold Medal Preview - Russia vs Slovakia
Saturday August 7th
Russia defeated Slovakia in a pre tournament game 9-3 but the tournament surprise Slovakia has gotten better and better as the tournament has gone on, most recently defeated Finland in the semifinals 6-2. The gold medal will highlight 2 of the top prospects for the 2023 NHL draft, Matvei Mitchkov of Russia and Dalibor Dvorsky of Slovakia.
USA Finishes 5th
After falling to Slovakia 5-2 and Sweden 5-3, the US needed a response. Against Germany, the US scored 5 in the third on its way to a 10-0 win and then held on in a tough game against hosts Czech Republic 6-4. Mikey Deangelo, Cam Lund and Cole Knuble led the US offensively, each finishing with a point per game or better.
