12.26.20 - USHL Sioux Falls Stampede (2) vs Fargo Force (0)
The conference leading Force traveled to Sioux Falls to take on the 4th place Stampede on the first day back after the holiday break. A tight checking game from both teams saw every little mistake magnified. The scoring opened off an offensive blue line turnover by the Force led to the Stampede’s first goal, and eventual game winner. Garrett Pinoniemi fed Sam Rhodes on a 2v1 rush for a one- timer, which beat Force goaltender, Brennan Boynton, just under 10 minutes into the game.
The Stampede pushed hard in the third for the insurance goal but Boynton stood his ground to give the Force a chance to add the extra attacker in the final two minutes. The Force threw everything at Grannan and the Stampede defence, coming up just short on a scramble in front of the net. Daniel Russell intercepted a regroup pass and found the back of the net to secure the win for the Stampede.
An all-around well played hockey game by both teams. A strategic battle that saw the Stampede come out on top 2-0. Noah Grannon earned the shutout stopping all 19 shots he faced.
Scouting Notes
Will Dineen - ‘00 Forward - Sioux Falls Stampede
Committed to Yale University, the puck follows Will around the ice as his situational awareness allows him to create offense almost every shift. He is very opportunistic offensively and plays with an edge. Looks to enjoy the physical side of the game and engages in the tough areas of the ice on most shifts.
Noah Grannan - ‘02 Goaltender - Sioux Falls Stampede
former US NTDP goaltender, Noah was solid throughout the game. Stayed square and made a lot of saves look easy. His big frame fills the net and he does a good job not allowing second chance shots. Poised and calm in the net. Gives his team confidence.
Sam Rhodes - ‘00 Forward - Sioux Falls Stampede
Powerful skater, uses his low skating base and wall play to maintain possession in the offensive zone. Deceptively quick release and is not afraid to pull the trigger from all areas of the offensive zone.
