Belmont Hill (4) vs St Marks (1)
1.18.23
Summary
The first period started out with some good back and forth play that led to both goalies making some key saves throughout. Belmont Hill certainly had the shot advantage but St Marks with the higher danger scoring opportunities. It was a great job by both goaltenders to leave it scoreless after 1 period of play.
Heading into the second we saw again some good end to end action with both sides getting PP opportunities in the period. One major mistake on a St Marks PP led to a shorthanded goal by Belmont Hill to help them take the lead heading into the 3rd period.
Jason Thibodeau came up with a huge breakaway save late in the 2nd, to help keep the lead at one as well, another good period of goaltending on both sides. Belmont Hill took the one goal lead and the momentum into the 3rd period and played a good solid 3rd period to hold the lead and add onto it as well with 2 goals in the period. A solid winning type of period from Belmont Hill as they end up taking this contest 4-1 over St Marks to improve to 8-4-2 on the year, while St Marks dropped this one, bringing them to 10-3 with the loss.
Standout Players
Matthew Biotti - ‘04 Defenseman - Belmont Hill
Matt is a tall and lanky defenseman who has a great skating stride for his size which allows him to be very mobile on the backend for BH. He does a good job at creating time and space for himself on the rush, at some points he tries to overhandle late in the offensive zone, instead of just putting a simple, effective puck to the net. He does move pucks hard on his first past and touches pucks constantly on the defensive end. A fun D to watch as he has the size and ability to play at a high level.
Brock Cummings - ’05 Forward - Belmont Hill
Brock is a smooth skating centerman who has elite vision in the offensive zone. He was able to find the score sheet on the Ronan O’Donnell insurance goal as he used his vision to collect a puck in the middle of the ice and continue to move it wide to Ronan who distributed the puck into the back of the net. Brock was very good in the dot and continually won big faceoffs for his team whether it be in the defensive zone or the offensive zone.
Jake McManus - ‘05 Forward - Belmont Hill
Jake, an undersized forward who is extremely shifty with the puck and has good hands in tight with the puck on his stick. He demonstrates good habits in the offensive zone, with his ability to find open space and he does not overcomplicate it when he moves the puck. He showcased his skill when he picked up a St Marks turnover and quickly wheeled behind the net while also roofing a puck over the goalie’s short side shoulder that ultimately put the game away for BH and gave them a 4-1 lead.
Calvin Beard - ‘05 Defenseman - St. Marks
Calvin makes a good hard first pass when breaking out of the zone, consistently. He plays with his head up and does a great job at head checking on retrievals, another good trait to his game is the fact that he never panics with the puck, which allows for him to the run the top of PP2 with efficiency and poise.
Jeevan Anand - ‘04 Goaltender - St. Marks
Jeevan is a very technically sound goaltender who does a great job controlling his rebounds. Belmont Hill would pepper him with shots consistently throughout the night, whether it be a good opportunity or just a puck thrown to the net. He also had times in which he was able to make the desperation save, although he gave up the 4 goals, he did a great job at giving his team a chance to win the game heading into the 3rd period.
Austin Borggaard - ‘05 Forward - St. Marks
Austin certainly made his impact on the game yesterday even though he didn’t find the score sheet. He’s a hard-nosed forward who is constantly moving his feet, he finishes his hits and creates chaos. He doesn’t force pucks and always looks to put pucks to the right areas, a simple, detail-oriented forward who is a good tone setter for his team.
