Preview
Lone Star 18-6-1-0 hosts Shreveport as the Mudbugs come to Texas with a 15-3-2-1 record. The Brahmas currently sit up top the South Division with 37 points abut Shreveport is only 4 points back with 4 games in hand. With first place on the line Lone Star is looking to use their depth up front to their advantage as they love to get up in the transition game. Shreveport plays a physical brand of hockey that really wears their opponents down and they will be looking to slow down Lone Star through the Neutral Zone.
Players to watch
Braiden Dorfman - ‘00 Forward - Shreveport Mudbugs
The point leader on the Mudbugs is a power forward with great skill. He creates offensively when by using his size. He puts himself in offensive areas that make him successful. A threat on the half wall on the powerplay to shoot or find a seam to pass.
Mitchell Digby - ‘00 Defenseman - Lonestar Brahmas
The Air Force commit is a shifty, smaller sized defenseman with an offensive mind for the game. Has great ability to skate the puck from behind his own net into the offensive zone and make plays. Good at running the point on the powerplay.
Cole Hudson - ‘00 Goaltender - Shreveport Mudbugs
Hudson is a high IQ goaltender who plays his game with great anticipation to go with very strong positional play. He has been steady of late, in his last five starts he has posted a 92.6 save percentage. If Hudson is on his game he can be very hard to beat on a given night.
Prediction
Both teams have had similar fate of late as Lone Star has gone 4-2 in the month of January and Shreveport has gone 6-2. Although, we think Shreveport is going to give Lone Star everything they can handle, Lone Star is simply a team that rarely gets swept or drops two in a row. With the season series being tied 1-1 and with first place on the line we think that each team will take one game a piece which sets up for an exciting weekend next week as both teams meet again.
