CHL Lawsuit Against NCAA
A class-action lawsuit was filed against the NCAA on behalf of Rylan Masterson, who lost his college eligibility after playing in CHL games. The lawsuit challenges the NCAA’s ban of Canadian Hockey league players, highlighting inconsistencies in NCAA bylaws, which allow professional participation in other sports but not men’s ice hockey and skiing.
A ruling in favor of the CHL players would possibly open the door to players from the OHL, WHL, or QMJHL being eligible for NCAA competition, changing the landscape of both college and junior hockey immediately.
Neck Laceration Protection Begins in 24-25
USA Hockey announced earlier this summer effective August 1st, all US hockey players of all age classifications outside of adults must wear neck laceration protection, including on ice officials under the age of 18. This rule comes after multiple on ice incidents in recent years, and most likely will be heavily monitored as a new initiative by USA Hockey.

New Captain in Toronto
Auston Matthews has been named the 26th captain in Toronto Maple Leafs history earlier this week, with many calling out how now former captain John Tavares handled the situation with class and professionalism. Matthews, arguably one of the top 3 players in the world, won his 3rd Rocket Richard Trophy in 23-24 after a 69 goal regular season.
"I'm honored to follow in John's footsteps and continue our work in leading this team along with so many other leaders within our dressing room. This team, this city, and our fans mean everything to me. We all embrace the history of this franchise, and we are determined to get the job done."
