ACHA D1 Round Up
Another great weekend of ACHA Division I action. Catch up on the top wins and storylines.
Adrian Continues To Roll
After outscoring Oakland University 27-1 in their mid week, 2 game series, Adrian defeated Arizona Saturday night 5-1 to improve to 10-1 on the year. Ohio is the next matchup for Adrian, entering a home and home series Thursday/Friday this week.
Central Oklahoma Cruises Past Alabama
The Tide were no match for the Bronchos this past weekend, with Central Oklahoma taking Friday’s game 4-2, and Saturday’s 6-1. The Central Oklahoma offense created over 50 shots in each game, with Zach Guerra and Carter Eha each scoring twice in the 2 games.
Alabama will have the weekend off before heading to Western Michigan 11.4-11.5, their first of 5 straight road games. Central Oklahoma will travel to University of Colorado next weekend for a huge, 2 game series.
Naval Academy’s Perfect Weekend
After splitting with Pitt last weekend, Navy rattled off 2 wins this past weekend in tight games vs West Chester 5-4 and Temple 4-2. Navy’s leading scorer Michael Rockovich added 1 goal and 3 assists over the 2 games.
Temple won their Friday matchup vs George Mason 4-0.
Battle of Northwest New York
Buffalo and Syracuse split their 2 game series this past weekend, with Buffalo taking Friday night’s tilt 7-4, and Syracuse responding in game 2 on Saturday 3-2 in OT. Harrison Guigui was impressive in net for Buffalo, going 1-1 but stopping 106 of 113 total shots.
Syracuse will end October with a Thurs/Friday series this week vs Oswego State, while Buffalo will welcome Temple to town Friday night before traveling to face a tough Villanova team Saturday.
West Virginia Responds
The Mountaineers responded after splitting with Alabama the previous weekend with 2 solid wins over Duquesne 4-3 and Robert Morris 2-1 in an overtime thriller. Robert Morris opened their weekend with a 5-2 win over John Carroll.
Leonard Haban, a former New York Aviator of the USPHL Premier, was the OT hero Saturday night vs Robert Morris, after Nick Grandy tied the game at 1-1 early in the third.
Next up on the schedule for West Virginia is a tough Indiana University of Pennsylvania team for their only game of the weekend.
Close Games for IUP, Oswego St
Oswego State and Indiana University of Pennsylvania split last weekends series with two, one goal games. Oswego St took Friday’s game 3-2, where Trevor Jubran had 2 goals for the Lakers. Shane Miller would be the hero Saturday in OT for the Crimson Hawks as they would take game 2 3-2 in OT.
Oswego St will begin a 2 game series vs Syracuse this Thursday, while IUP prepares for tests this week against West Virginia and Mercyhurst.
Rhode Island Sweeps Delaware
Dylan Weichselbaumer and Nick Ferraro each finished with 2G 1A over the 2 game sweep of Delaware, 3-2 and 5-2 this past weekend. Rhode Island’s weekend was the first weekend sweep since their opening weekend vs Oswego State, and will look to continue their form next weekend vs Stony Brook.
Colorado State improves to 8-2
After starting the year 2-2, Colorado State have been on a roll in October. Their sweep over Midland University this past weekend was their 3rd straight series sweep, taking care of Missouri St and San Diego State the following 2 weekends. Team leader in points Tristin Maestas, a former El Paso Rhino of the NA3HL, finished with 4G 1A in the 2 games. Maestas is 1 of 8 players over a point per game for Colorado State.
Colorado State will have the week off before facing Central Oklahoma, who handed the Rams their first 2 losses of the season.
Colorado Bounces Back
After being handed their first 2 losses of the season last weekend vs Oregon, Colorado swept Missouri State in a 2 game series this weekend 4-2 and 5-4. Marc Borghi, the former Groton School captain, tallied 2 goals in the Friday 4-2 win, while 5 different players found the net for Colorado in their Saturday 5-4 win.
Central Oklahoma will be next up for Colorado, another big test, while Missouri State has the week off to prepare for another 2 games series vs Colorado 11.4/11.5.
New Jersey Scores
The College of New Jersey had its first win vs interstate rival Rutgers University Friday night, followed up by a commanding win vs Lehigh on Saturday 5-2. William Paterson improved to 8-2-1 on the year with a clean sweep of Towson, outscoring the Tigers 12-3 in the 2 games. William Paterson will welcome Navy to town for the last game of October on 10.29.
