3 Periods - Atlantic Hockey
3 quick storylines from NCAA Division I Atlantic Hockey Conference.
1 - AIC On The Rise
American International College (AIC) is proving to be a top contender this season in the Atlantic, racing out to a 4-1 record in conference play, after starting the season 1-5 in non conference action. AIC has tested itself in the non-conference schedule and has strong resume boosting wins over Penn State and University of Vermont, while also falling in overtime early in the season to now #3 Quinnipiac.
AIC looks to keep the momentum going as they take on Long Island University and Army in their next to match ups. Freshman Nils Wallstrom, a Swedish 6’3” goaltender who came over to North America last season to play in Kenai River of the NAHL, has started 9 of the Yellow Jackets 10 games, posting a 2.29 GAA and 9.22 save %.
2 - Veltri Makes History
Per Atlantichockeyonline.com, Robert Morris University Senior Goaltender Chad Veltri has become the 12th netminder in Atlantic Hockey History to reach 2,900 saves. The 5th year, spent 4 years at Niagara University before transferring to his home town school Robert Morris University for his last season of Collegiate hockey. Despite Robert Morris being recently swept this past weekend by his former club, Veltri has posted a 92.2 Save Percentage and a 2.89 GAA this season.
3 - An Important Final Month of 2023
December will be a critical month for Atlantic Hockey Standing as there will be several crucial match-ups early on that fans should be aware of. To finish November, RIT, the only nationally ranked Atlantic Hockey program at #20 in the USCHO Poll, will welcome #10 New Hampshire of Hockey East to the Polisseni Center this weekend for a 2 game series.
